What is history for?

Through the project What is history for? - Public History Festivals, four history public festivals will be organized in Belgrade, Krusevac, Zajecar and Zrenjanin. These festivals aim to open public debate through various formats and from different angles about significant events from the 20th century, including the Yugoslav legacies and the break-up of Yugoslavia. The goal of the festivals is to initiate conversations at local level about lesser-known and unknown topics, as well as about topics that are rarely discussed. Consisting of public guided tours, promotions and exhibitions, workshops, forums and lectures, film screenings, and similar public events, the festivals will target audiences of different interests and different ages. The festivals program will be free, and it is planned that most of the activities are held in public spaces. Special attention will be paid to the presentation of content in a form that is attractive and close to young people, as well as to the idea of leaving classrooms and academic circles when it comes to discussing history, historical heritage and dealing with the past.
